March: Dawn Cawthra-Smith in the Square Room

 Dawn Cawthra-Smith Exhibition

at the Art Gallery’s Square Room

I am an artist, teacher, and holistic health practitioner, living and working along the beautiful Moray Coast, in the Highlands of Scotland.

Originally trained in art, graphics, interior and furniture design at Chesterfield College of Art during the 1970’s and 80’s, I have since studied digital photography, printmaking techniques and textile design and I’m continually exploring and pushing the boundaries of my art.

Living and promoting a healthy, mindful, creative life is as essential as breathing to me, bringing joy and an immense sense of wellbeing on all levels, not only for myself, but also for my course participants and clients. As well as exploring my own art practice, I am passionate about working with individuals and groups to improve physical, emotional and mental health. I teach unique, transformative painting courses, and also offer one-to-one sessions.

In this exhibition, as well as collograph, mono print and textile pieces, I have included a vibrant collection of paintings, hand-embellished prints and cards, created through intuitive painting. This process involves painting and printing layer upon layer of different colours and textures to reveal shapes and images that can then be worked into with finer detail, even adding stitch if desired.

It is the most joyful and playful way I have ever experienced painting, as it allows total freedom from the constraints of trying to capture or produce a recognised image. Through the combination of mindfulness, painting, printing and stitching techniques, I create art pieces that hopefully delight and inspire others to explore their own creative expression, enhancing their wellbeing in the process.

The exhibition runs from March 1st – April 1st
