Bright and Beautiful Things

New paintings by

Jackie Hichens

in the Art Gallery's

Square Room

July 1 - August 8

Jackie is a Cornish born artist who now lives in Nethy Bridge in the Highlands.  Her passion has always been the countryside and the flora and fauna that lives in it.  She paints anything from deer to insects, and trees to flowers, with a particular passion for our feathered friends the birds, usually in watercolour, inks or pastels on paper or canvas.  Her work can be seen in several galleries in the Cairngorm area as well as Cornwall.

Some subjects are captured in her sketchbooks but she likes to carry out thorough research before putting paint to paper, thereby capturing the character of the subject by fully understanding what she is seeing.

As well as selling her original paintings across the world she produces cards, mugs, clocks, coasters and other items from the images, considering herself sometimes as much a designer as an artist.

Throughout my life I have been lucky enough to live in two beautiful parts of this country, Cornwall with its azure coloured sea, rocky cliffs and sandy beaches and now the Highlands with its majestic mountains and green forests, both have been very inspiring and the selection of wildlife in both quite different, but I can honestly say I will never run out of subjects.
