The River Findhorn Heritage Centre

The River Findhorn Heritage Centre opened in 2003 in response to the demand for information about the River Findhorn and, in particular, the legend of Randolph's Leap and that of the Wolf of Badenoch who lived for some years in the Lochindorb castle.

Findhorn River MapThe exhibition is divided into three parts - the first part is about the river: based around a mural depicting the change in terrain, bridges etc with illustrated stories from Thomas Dick Lauder's Moray Floods and other river tales. There is also information on the unusual geological formations at Randolph's Leap.

Model White HouseThe second part explores the tales of Wolf of Badenoch, Randolph's Leap, and Sir Alexander Grant, who lived at Logie House at the beginning of the 20th century.

The final part is a model white house including a box bed and other furniture from local crofts; Giles Pearson, one of the trustees, has sourced some very interesting bits and pieces which all help to bring the room alive and provide a fuller picture to the visitor.

Facsimiles of the first edition of Thomas Dick Lauder's Moray Floods, including the map of the routes the boats took to rescue stranded families around Forres, are now available from the Art Gallery, tel: 01309 611378 or email panny@logie.co.uk.

The River Findhorn Heritage Centre is a member of Moray Heritage Connections which supports and promotes the Museums and Heritage groups in Moray: www.morayconnections.com
